The Springs Valley girls’ golf team traveled to Country Oaks Golf Club on Saturday to compete in the Washington Hatchet Invite. The Blackhawks came away from the 17-team event with plenty of positives, placing 11th in a loaded field. Mia Cruz led the way for Springs Valley. She carded a career-low 87 in the first 18-hole event of her senior year to tie for 15th place. That score was five strokes lower than the 92 she put on the board at last year’s IHSAA Regional at the same course and 17 strokes lower than her 104 at the 2021 IHSAA Regional as a sophomore. In fact, it was the best 18-hole round any Blackhawk has recorded at Country Oaks since 2019, when Keisha Bennett finished with a score of 82. Dallas Hendrix was next-best for Springs Valley, putting up a 103. Karmen Hall was just behind her at 107, and in the first 18-hole event of her career Myla Harrison recorded a score of 124. The Blackhawks will return to action on Tuesday, hosting Bedford North Lawrence, Corydon Central, and North Daviess at the Valley Links.
