It took an extra hole, but Mia Cruz would not be denied the top spot on the individual leaderboard on Thursday. The Springs Valley girls’ golf team played host to Jasper, Southridge, and Forest Park and after nine holes, the Blackhawks’ senior leader was tied with Jasper’s Addy Dart at 42. They went back down to the first hole and Cruz didn’t win by just one stroke, she won by two to lay claim to medalist honors. It was the perfect punctuation mark on a historic evening as the Blackhawks, as a team, beat Jasper for the first time in nearly a decade. Their team score of 195 was 27 strokes better than Jasper’s 222. Southridge finished second at 206 and Forest Park brought up the rear at 231. Cruz’s was far from the only noteworthy performance in the event. Karmen Hall put together a career-low night of 45 to finish third and get Springs Valley’s team score lower than it’s been at any point so far this season. Dallas Hendrix also shot a personal best, carding a 46. Myla Harrison rounded things out with a 62. Springs Valley will try to continue building on its momentum on Monday when it hits the road to take on Heritage Hills, Jasper, and Forest Park.
