The Springs Valley football team traveled to Salem on Friday, defeating the Lions 46-11. Larron Childers led the way for the Blackhawks, carrying the ball 11 times for 250 yards and four touchdowns. The senior also forced a fumble that led to a fumble recovery and touchdown by teammate Jaheim Hamilton. The Springs Valley rushing attack as a whole was effective against Salem, ending the evening with 343 yards and an average higher than 13 yards per carry. The offensive line — Teagun Rominger, Remington Wininger, Ethan Parker, Jonas Hammond, and Kayce Jones — as well as tight end Ian Robbins and wing Augie Purkhiser were a big part of that success, opening holes for backs like Childers to run through. It was the perfect way for Springs Valley (4-1, 2-1 PLAC) to cap off an emotional week that included the first anniversary of Springs Valley youth football player Treven Ball's death. The Blackhawks made every effort to honor his memory over the course of the week, but especially in the way they played on Friday. "The Salem week will always be a tough week for Springs Valley Football. We will always do what we can to honor the memory of Treven Ball for week five. We talked about Treven multiple times during the week as well as holding our prayer circle for his family on Thursday night and having Talon be an honorary captain with us Friday night," Springs Valley football coach Jason Lowe said. "I can't say enough about the kids we have playing football at Springs Valley. We knew Salem was going to give us their best shot as we would be their chance to get their first win and they have played a tough schedule to this point. Our kids had to overcome some adversity and our coaching staff did a nice job of making in-game adjustments to put our kids in position to have success. Just an all around great win." The Blackhawks will return to action on Friday, Sept. 22 when they host conference foe Crawford County.
