The Springs Valley girls' golf team competed at the Bedford North Lawrence Sectional on Saturday, turning in a third-place team finish to qualify for the regional round of the IHSAA State Tournament. The Blackhawks' team score of 418 fell only behind the host Stars, who shot a 328, and Brownstown Central's 387. They defeated Seymour, Eastern Greene, Salem and Mitchell. Paoli, Orleans, and Trinity Lutheran were also present, but weren't able to record a team score due to lack of players. Mia Cruz was the Blackhawks' top performer at Otis Park Golf Course, carding her career-best sectional score of 90 in her final sectional. The senior recovered from a rocky front nine to place tied for fifth as an individual and lead her team back to the Washington Regional for the second consecutive season. This will be her third regional berth. Karmen Hall also stood out for Springs Valley on Saturday, improving upon her 2022 score by 13 strokes. As a sophomore, Hall scored a 109, but on Saturday she carded a 96 to finish tied for ninth individual. Dallas Hendrix recorded a score of 108 and Myla Harrison rounded out Springs Valley's scoring at 124. The Blackhawks will compete next in the Washington Regional on Saturday, Sept. 23 at Country Oaks Golf Club.
