The boys XC team came up big at the Dennis Bays XC Invitational in Evansville on Saturday. They went up against 299 runners from 38 schools and fought hard for a well earned 5th place finish. Senior Grant Brown led Valley with his 10th place finish by going under 17 minutes for the first time this season. His time of 16:48.6 puts him on pace to soon challenge his own school record of 16:37. His brother Carson came in second for the team in 30th place and was just off his PR in 17:31.7. Alan Marshall ran a season best time of 17:39.6 to finish in 36th. First year runner Andre Ayres continues to impress with a 46th place finish in a PR time of 17:51.5. Harry Dybsetter, who competed in his first race of the season set a new PR with 19:02.3 and 100th place. Harry’s brother Henry, who was also running in his first race of the season, set a new PR in 20:18.5. Freshman Dane Harris continues to lower his time as he set a new PR of 20:32.3. Matthew Woolsey also had his season debut and came out with a strong 22:54.2. Keaton Thacker rounded out the scoring for the Hawks. For the girls race there were 250 runners and it was Sophie Harris leading the way for the Hawks with her 69th place finish in 23:43.4. Addi Moffatt was second for the team in 25:24.9 and Keira Lynch was back after missing last Saturdays race for a 3rd place team finish. Macie Mayhew ran her first ever XC race and competed well. The girls were missing Jadyn Lynch today but with 5 girls now on the team, they are looking forward to competing as a team in their upcoming meets. Coach Freeman said, "I am very happy with the effort the kids put out. A lot of these kids dealt with sickness last week and they still came out and went toe to toe with some powerhouse schools. They all have been working on the small things and keep blowing our expectations away!
