Running Blackhawks compete at Small Schools Invite

The Springs Valley cross country team hit the road on Saturday to compete against some of the best competition in the state as it participated in the Jeremy Wright Memorial Small Schools Invitational hosted by Southwestern (Shelbyville). It was a big day for the Blackhawks as they managed to bring home a pair of ribbons as well as some season-best and personal-record performances. In the boys' race it was the junior duo of Grant Brown and Alan Marshall that led the way. In a large field of 282 runners, Brown raced to a seventh-place finish with a time of 17:42.26 while Marshall placed 11th with a season-best time of 18:09.39. Freshman Matthew Woolsey rounded out the boys' race for Springs Valley with a time of 26:39.34, finishing 255th; The Lynch twins were at the front of the pack for Springs Valley in the girls' race, each setting a new personal record. Keira Lynch posted a time of 25:07.77 to place 64th while Jadyn Lynch placed 71st with a time of 25:28.2. Sophie Harris ran a season-best time of 26:42.8 to finish 102nd, Alexis Courtney finished 164th with a time of 32:53.6 in her first race of the season, and Josie Robison placed 178th with a time of 34:34.3. "I was extremely excited with how all the kids competed," Springs Valley coach Derek Freeman said. "They attacked the course in chunks and competed amazingly." The Blackhawks will run again on Tuesday, traveling to Silver Creek.
