The Springs Valley girls' golf team traveled to Buffalo Trace Golf Course on Saturday to compete in the first Tony Blessinger Memorial Invitational. In an 11-team field loaded with larger schools like Bloomington South and host Jasper, the Blackhawks finished eighth, beating Tecumseh, North Harrison and Crawford County. It was a difficult day for the 'Hawks, as each member of the team battled through their own issues. Senior Macy Hall ended the day as Springs Valley's low scorer, finishing with a score of 104. Mia Cruz was next at 106, Dallas Hendrix shot a 111 and Logan Watts' score was 141. Karmen Hall was unable to make it through the 18-hole event, having to withdraw. Despite their scores being higher than their averages, the Blackhawks enter a new week determined to continue their improvement. "I'm not going to let Saturday's score derail me," Cruz said. "Monday is the start of a new week of opportunities." The Blackhawks will get their next opportunity on Tuesday, hosting North Harrison, Eastern Greene and Mitchell at the Valley Links.
