Springs Valley volleyball finishes third at Pioneer Kickoff Classic

The Springs Valley volleyball team opened its season on Saturday, traveling to Providence to compete in the Pioneer Kickoff Classic. The Blackhawks found success at the tournament, placing third with a 2-1 record for the day. The Blackhawks opened the day against reigning Class 3A state champion Providence, falling 25-12, 25-18, 25-22. Maddie Carnes played well against the host Pioneers, totaling 10 kills on 15 attempts. She also had 11 assists, 17 digs, a block, and one ace while missing just one of her nine serves. Springs Valley bounced back against Tri-West (Hendricks), a Class 3A team, winning 25-19, 30-28, 16-25, 25-18. Leigh Carnes played a big part in the Blackhawks' first win of the season, racking up 16 kills on 23 attempts as well as 14 assists and two blocks. She also had a trio of aces on 11/13 serving. The Blackhawks closed their day in the third-place game against Class 1A power Trinity Lutheran, going the distance and winning 25-23, 25-12, 23-25, 18-25, 15-13. Bella Nottger was vital to Springs Valley's success against the Cougars, tallying 15 kills on 23 attempts. She also had 19 digs and five blocks with two aces on 15/17 serving. Springs Valley (2-1) will play next on Thursday when they take on Christian Academy.
