Springs Valley volleyball takes down Mitchell, takes lead in race for PLAC title

The Springs Valley volleyball team hit the road on Thursday, traveling to Mitchell for a key matchup with Patoka Lake Athletic Conference rival Mitchell. Four sets late, the Blackhawks emerged victorious 25-23, 25-15, 17-25, 25-15. It was a big night for the Valley middles. Kinsey Saliba was a key contributor for the Blackhawks, putting up five kills, also compiling five aces on 16/17 serving with three blocks, 13 digs, and 18 serve receptions. Tori McCormick was also key to the victory, putting together an efficient eight kills on 14 attempts with three blocks and three digs. She also stepped into a serving role mid-game and went 3/4 on serve attempts. With the win, Springs Valley (18-1, 4-0 PLAC) has taken sole possession of first place in the Patoka Lake Athletic Conference. The Blackhawks need to win just one of their final two against Paoli and Perry Central to clinch a share of the title, though they'll expect to win both and be the sole champion of the league. They've also won 18 matches in a row, though their sets streak ended in the third against Mitchell. They won 44 consecutive sets between Aug. 12 and Thursday evening. Springs Valley will play next on Saturday, traveling to White River Valley.
