It has been 3,284 days since the Springs Valley volleyball team lost a Patoka Lake Athletic Conference match and now that streak will continue for at least a couple hundred more days. On Thursday, the Blackhawks closed out their regular season by hosting Perry Central — the team that handed them their last conference defeat on Oct. 9, 2014 — and defeated the Commodores 25-12, 19-25, 25-19, 25-11. It was the ninth conference title in a row for coach Erin Carnes' program and the 26th overall in the 45 seasons that the PLAC has awarded a championship. The conference undefeated streak now stands at 54 matches. It was also the 106th career win for Springs Valley's seniors: Miya Campbell, Leigh Carnes, Tori McCormick, Bella Nottger, and Molly Tucker. That quintet led the way for the Blackhawks against the Commodores. Carnes compiled 12 kills, 21 assists, eight digs, and an ace for the match. Nottger had six kills, three digs, three blocks, and two aces. McCormick had five kills on14 errorless attempts, three digs, a block, and an ace. Tucker had three assists, 15 digs, 12 serve receptions, and an ace. Campbell started the match for the Blackhawks, but was subbed out prior to the first play due to an ankle injury she suffered in practice. Springs Valley (26-3, 6-0 PLAC) will now head to the postseason. The Blackhawks will open IHSAA Sectional 63 play on Saturday, Oct. 14 when they take on the winner of an opening-round match between Vincennes Rivet and Shoals.
