It was touch-and-go for some time, but the Springs Valley football team escaped its road trip to South Spencer with a win on Friday night, defeating the Rebels 36-33. The Blackhawks led 8-7 after one quarter, then 22-15 at the half. South Spencer made a final push in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough as Springs Valley ran down the clock to end the game. The Blackhawks relied on their workhorses against the Rebels. Konner Chase carried the ball 24 times for 166 yards and three touchdowns. Larron Childers carried the ball 19 times for 149 yards and a touchdown. Springs Valley also got a touchdown from Xander Cook, who caught one pass for 10 yards from Valley quarterback Mavrick Land. Jonas Hammond led the way for the Blackhawks defensively, making a team-high 13 tackles. Kayce Jones was right behind him with 11 and Childers had 10. Jones also blocked a PAT. Springs Valley (9-1, 5-1 PLAC) has now won seven games in a row and lifted its season wins total to nine for just the fourth time since 1994. If the Blackhawks can pick up a win next week against West Washington, they'll have their most wins in a single season since at least 1994.
