The Springs Valley girls' basketball team traveled to Elnora on Tuesday, controlling the game from start to finish and defeating North Daviess 35-22. Maddie Carnes was the focal point of the Blackhawks' offense in the contest. The sophomore put up 16 points against the Cougars, hitting half of her 14 shots including two of her four 3-pointers. She also had three rebounds, two assists, two steals, and two blocks. Maci Eckerty was next in scoring, putting up eight points while hitting a pair of threes. She had a team-high six rebounds and four assists as well. Leigh Carnes finished with six points and five rebounds. Kynleigh Dalton had two points, five rebounds, and five steals — all career highs for the sophomore. Tori McCormick had two points, four rebounds, and four deflections. Jordyn Land had one point. Gracie Breedlove had a deflection. With the win, Springs Valley improved its record to 3-0 for the season. It's the program's first 3-0 start since the 2018-19 season and just its second under coach Marty Niehaus' seven seasons. It's just the fourth time the Blackhawks have started 3-0 since 2000. The Blackhawks will try to continue their winning streak on Saturday when they host Rock Creek Academy.
