It was a slow start for the Springs Valley girls' basketball team on Thursday night as it hosted Northeast Dubois. The Blackhawks trailed 12-2 at the end of the first quarter, then 19-6 at halftime. Their offense would show signs of life in the third quarter — they scored 10 points in the period — but they'd still go into the fourth trailing 32-16. At that point, the Blackhawks finally came to life. They poured in 22 points, outscoring the Jeeps 22-12, but it was too little, too late as they lost 44-38. Maci Eckerty finished as the team's leading scorer with 13 points. She also had four assists, four steals, and three rebounds. Maddie Carnes had 12 points, four rebounds, four steals, and three assists. Jordyn Land had five points, a rebound, and a block. Tori McCormick had five points, four rebounds, and a block. Kynleigh Dalton had three points, two rebounds, and two assists. Leigh Carnes had three rebounds. Gracie Breedlove had a rebound and an assist. The Blackhawks allowed 13 offensive rebounds as a team and lost the rebounding battle 37-20. They also allowed 11 second-chance points and 18 points in the paint. Springs Valley (6-1, 1-0 PLAC) saw its six-game winning streak come to an end with the loss. The Blackhawks also had an 11-game winning streak at The Nest that came to an end on Thursday. They'll try to start new streaks on Saturday when they host White River Valley.
