Coming off of its first loss of the season, the Springs Valley girls' basketball team hosted White River Valley on Saturday. The Blackhawks wasted no time getting back to the quality of play that defined their six-game winning streak, taking a 22-8 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Wolverines would try to battle back over the course of the afternoon, but they couldn't make up the difference as Springs Valley won 56-35. It was quite the afternoon for freshman Gracie Breedlove. In her most extensive stretch of varsity action so far — she logged more than 10 minutes for the first time with 18 — she excelled, scoring a career-high 16 points on six-of-11 shooting. She also had four rebounds, an assist, and two steals. Maddie Carnes was good as ever as well, leading the Blackhawks with 17 points. She also had three assists, three steals, and a block. Maci Eckerty had 12 points, six rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Tori McCormick had four points, five rebounds, and a block. Kynleigh Dalton had three points, two rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Leigh Carnes had two points, five rebounds, and four assists. Jordyn Land had two points, four rebounds, and a steal. Kinsey Campbell had a rebound. Josie Robison had a rebound and a steal. Kyan Green had a rebound. As a team, the Blackhawks held White River Valley to 23.8 percent shooting from the field, allowing just 10 made field goals across the game's 32 minutes. They also had 12 steals in the contest, the third time this season that they've broken double digits in the category. Springs Valley (7-1, 1-0 PLAC) will return to play with a key Patoka Lake Athletic Conference matchup on Tuesday, traveling to Orleans to take on the Bulldogs, one of the top contenders for the conference title.
