Blackhawks take down Loogootee for fifth win in a row

It was an offensive struggle for the Springs Valley girls' basketball team on Saturday as it hosted Loogootee, but nevertheless the Blackhawks came away with a 39-35 win. They led just 23-22 at halftime, then took a 29-25 lead into the fourth quarter. They were able to hold their ground in the fourth to pull out the win. Springs Valley did not shoot well against Loogootee, hitting less than 30 percent of its 42 shots from the field. It did hit four of 13 3-pointers, but did not finish well inside the arc. The Blackhawks' boon came in the form of offensive rebounds as they grabbed 17 over the course of the night: a total that equaled Loogootee's rebounding total on both ends combined. Springs Valley's offense was also buoyed by its free-throw shooting. The Blackhawks took 16 shots from the stripe, hitting 11. Maddie Carnes led the charge on Saturday, pouring in a game-high 22 points. The sophomore also had six rebounds and two assists. Maci Eckerty stuffed the stat sheet as well with nine points, a career-high 11 rebounds, and a career-high seven steals. She also had two assists and had a block. Tori McCormick picked up some of the scoring slack, recording seven points on three-of-six shooting from the field. She also grabbed a pair of rebounds and tallied an assist. Leigh Carnes had one point, five rbeounds, two assists, and a steal. Kynleigh Dalton had three rebounds, two steals, and an assist. Jordyn Land had an assist. Springs Valley (11-1, 3-0 PLAC) has now won five games in a row and has yet to lose to a potential Sectional 63 opponent, having beaten Barr-Reeve, Orleans, and Loogootee. The Blackhawks will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to West Washington for a conference matchup.
