Valley girls fall to Class 2A No. 1 North Knox in Toby Yoho Classic title game

The Springs Valley girls' basketball team closed out its Toby Yoho Classic run on Friday evening, losing to North Knox 48-36. The Blackhawks hung tough against the top-ranked Warriors for a half, down 12-11 after one quarter and then 25-22 at the break. The second half did not go their way, however, as North Knox outscored them 23-14. The third quarter was specifically tough for Springs Valley as the Warriors won it 15-8. Turnovers plagued the Blackhawks in the game as they committed 23 to North Knox's nine. The Warriors scored 20 points off of those turnovers, a crucial factor in a game decided by 12 points. Maddie Carnes was Springs Valley's top scorer, putting up 15 points with seven rebounds, three rebounds, and two blocks. Leigh Carnes was strong as well with 10 points, four rebounds, and an assist. Maci Eckerty had six points, two rebounds, and four assists. The game snapped her streak of 23 straight with a steal. Tori McCormick had three points and four rebounds. Kynleigh Dalton had two points, an assist, and a steal. Gracie Breedlove had a rebound and an assist. Springs Valley (15-2, 4-0 PLAC) saw its nine-game winning streak come to an end with the loss, finishing second in the Toby Yoho Classic as well. The Blackhawks will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 6 with a home matchup against Vincennes Rivet.
