Springs Valley boys take McKee Munk Invitational crown

The Springs Valley boys’ basketball team defeated Southwestern (Hanover) and host Henryville to win the McKee Munk Invitational on Thursday. The Blackhawks started strong in the first game against Southwestern, leading 41-20 in the first half. With an outstanding 21 steals and 36 turnover points, the ‘Hawks won 77-46. Keyton Jones led the way for the Blackhawks, scoring a career-high 17 points and snatching six rebounds. Jones also helped the team with eight assists and five steals. Deion Edwards followed behind Jones with 14 points. Mavrick Land had 11 points and five rebounds. Round things out for the ‘Hawks, James Walls had nine points, Konner Chase had nine points and two rebounds, Evan Brown had six points and five rebounds, Jaheim Hamilton had two points and four rebounds, Christian Hamilton had four points, and lastly Larron Childers had five points and six rebounds. The Blackhawks started strong again in the championship game against Henryville, leading 38-22. Although the Hornets outscored the ‘Hawks in the last half, the Blackhawks won 65-60. The ‘Hawks’ 44 points in the paint compared to Henryville’s 28 helped secure the win. The Blackhawks’ 27 transition points and 25 points off of turnovers contributed to their victory as well. Konner Chase and Deion Edwards led the way for the ‘Hawks, both scoring a superb 20 points. Chase had three rebounds and two assists while Edwards had three rebounds and six assists. Finishing things off for the ‘Hawks, Keyton Jones had nine points and one rebound, Jaheim Hamilton had eight points and three rebounds, James Walls had four points, Evan Brown had two points and one rebound, Larron Childers had two points and three rebounds, and finally Mavrick Land had two rebounds and one assist. The ‘Hawks will get some Patoka Lake Athletic Conference action on Jan. 5, hosting the Crawford County Wolfpack.
