Carnes' career night sends Springs Valley to sectional semifinal

The Springs Valley girls’ basketball team battled Shoals in their first-round IHSAA Sectional 63 matchup at Barr-Reeve on Wednesday, winning 64-25. The Blackhawks started strong, scoring 22 points by the end of the first quarter compared to Shoals’ two. The ‘Hawks’ 14 steals and 32 rebounds compared to Shoals’ four and 14 respectively helped them win by 39. Senior Leigh Carnes led the way for the Blackhawks with a career-high 20 points. Carnes also had five steals and nine rebounds. Maddie Carnes had 12 points, three steals, and three rebounds. Maci Eckerty had 12 points as well and four rebounds. Rounding things out for the ‘Hawks, Gracie Breedlove had 11 points, four rebounds, and five steals, Tori McCormick had one point and three rebounds, Kinsey Campbell had two rebounds, Josie Robison had one rebound and one steal, Kynleigh Dalton had two points and one rebound, and Jordyn Land had six points and one rebound. Springs Valley (21-4, 5-1 PLAC), will travel to Barr-Reeve on Friday to battle the Vikings at 7:30 p.m. in the Sectional Semi-Finals.
