Blackhawk Track opens season against strong competition at Jasper

The Springs Valley boys’ and girls’ track teams traveled to Jasper to compete against the Wildcats, Evansville North Huskies, and Evansville Memorial Tigers. The boys started the meet off right, setting a new school record for the 3,200-meter relay. Grant Brown, Isaiah Ervin, Carson Brown, and Alan Marshall ran a time of 8:22, beating the previous record by six seconds. Marshall then won the 800-meter rim and the 1600-meter run in 2:01 and 4:31 respectively. Carson Brown followed closely behind in 1600, running a new personal best of 4:40 making him the seventh fastest in school history. Christian Hamilton won the 100-meter dash and the long jump, running 10.92 and jumping 21’3” respectively. Hamilton’s 100-meter time of 10.92 is a personal best for him and makes him the second-fastest 100-meter runner in school history. Ervin won the 400-meter with a new personal best of 51.69 seconds, making him the fifth-fastest in school history. The 400-meter relay team of Hamilton, Konner Chase, James Walls, and Jahiem Hamilton ran a 44.54 and tied for the second-fastest time in school history. For the girls, Miya Campbell won the long jump at 15’8.5”. Kinsey Saliba placed second in the 100-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 17.42 making her the fifth-fastest in school history. Jordyn Land threw a personal best of 32’5” in shot put, making her the seventh-best in school history. The boys won the meet with a score of 71 points. Evansville North had 58, Jasper had 50, and Evansville Memorial had 37. The girls fought hard and scored 21 points. Jasper won with 110 points, Evansville North had 64, and Evansville Memorial had 37. The Blackhawks will be back in action on Tuesday, April 2nd at Northeast Dubois against Dubois, Loogootee, and Crawford County.
