Valley girls see season end in Sectional 63 semifinal

The Springs Valley girls’ basketball team battled Barr-Reeve in the semi-finals of IHSAA Sectional 63 on Friday, losing 35-30. The Blackhawks and the Vikings started off slow, only scoring six and five points respectively by the end of the first quarter. The game pace never sped up with the ‘Hawks scoring only two points compared to the Vikings’ six by the end of the second quarter. The Vikings outscored the ‘Hawks by eight points by the end of the last quarter which led to their victory. Senior Tori McCormick had a great game, scoring 11 points and snatching three rebounds. Maddie Carnes led the way in points with 16. Carnes also had seven rebounds and two steals. Maci Eckerty, typically one of the leading scorers for the ‘Hawks, only had one point and one steal. Rounding things out for the Blackhawks, Leigh Carnes had two points and two rebounds, Gracie Breedlove had four rebounds, Kynleigh Dalton had four rebounds, and Jordyn Land had one rebound. Springs Valley (21-5, 5-1 PLAC) will be returning most of its players next year. The ‘Hawks will only be losing four seniors; Gracie Allstott, Leigh Carnes, Tori McCormick, and Bella Nottger. The future remains bright for the girls’ basketball team.
