Blackhawks stop Shoals in straight sets

The Springs Valley volleyball team returned to the floor on Tuesday, hosting Shoals. Against the Jug Rox the Blackhawks bounced back from their Monday loss to Tecumseh, winning 25-10, 25-20, 25-14. Defensively, the 'Hawks shared the load on Tuesday with five different players registering at least 10 digs. Brynne Buchanan led the way with 14 digs while Maddie Carnes, Molly Tucker, and Leigh Carnes had 12 apiece and Tynley Kluesner had 10. They also had seven players with at least one block assist in the match, led by Alayna Denbo with two. It was also a team effort in attack with seven different players recording a kill. Leigh Carnes topped the team in that category with 16 on 31 attempts. She was followed by Maddie Carnes, who had 11 on 20 attempts. Kluesner had seven, Denbo had six, Bella Nottger had five, Buchanan had one, and Kinsey Saliba had one. In service the Blackhawks were sharp, committing just five errors on 74 attempts without a single player committing multiple errors. Leigh Carnes led the team with three aces while each of Maddie Carnes, Saliba, Kluesner and Buchanan had two. Springs Valley (18-4, 4-0 PLAC) will play next on Saturday, when it competes in the Class A Showdown at Blue River Valley. The event will feature some of the best small-school programs in the state including Wes-Del, Indianapolis Lutheran and Cowan, all of which are in Springs Valley's pool.
