The Springs Valley cross country team continued the home stretch of its regular season on Tuesday, hitting the road to compete at the Jasper Invitational and get a feel for the course ahead of their sectional meet. The Blackhawks remained hot, as the boys soared to a second-place finish, the girls finished sixth, and there was a variety of individual achievements as well. Valley's boys were led by a trio of top-10 finishers. Grant Brown was top of the team with a third-place finish, breaking the 17-minute mark at 16:54. Alan Marshall wasn't far behind, finishing sixth with a time of 17:26, and Grant Brown placed ninth with a time of 17:57. All three runners were awarded a medal for their efforts. Behind them, senior Owen Weisensteiner just slipped into the top 25, finishing 25th at 19:03 to get a ribbon. From there the Blackhawks got four new personal-record performances. Max Pendley set a new low of 19:11 to finish 26th, Matthew Woolsey finished 72nd at 23:04, Harold Dybsetter placed 78th with a time of 23:43, and Keaton Thacker ran a time of 29:34 to finish 84. Henry Dybsetter finished 81st at 27:12. In the girls' race it was Jadyn Lynch who led the way. The sophomore ran a personal-record time of 23:29 to finish 25th and bring home a ribbon. Lily Hickman also set a new personal record, finishing 65th with a time of 29:45. Now the Blackhawks are headed straight into their biggest events of the season. On Saturday morning they'll travel to Crawford County to compete in the Patoka Lake Athletic Conference meet, then a week later they'll launch their state tournament run at the Jasper Sectional.
