Valley volleyball takes 2024 Leslie Akers Classic championship

The Springs Valley volleyball team hosted Forest Park, Vincennes Rivet, and Austin on Saturday for the Leslie Akers Classic. The Blackhawks swept the field to take the championship. Springs Valley opened its day with a 25-18, 25-20 win over Forest Park. Kinsey Saliba balled out against the Rangers, leading the team with 15 kills and 17 serve-receive passes. The junior also had three digs, two blocks, an ace, and an assist. Haylin Cave was solid in defense, making eight passes on serve receive and recording three digs. Maddie Carnes led the team with six digs, also recording five kills, 25 assists, and an ace. The Blackhawks played Vincennes Rivet in their second match of the day, coming from behind to win 18-25, 25-20, 16-14. Kinsey Saliba had 10 kills in the match and Emmy Saliba had seven. Emmy Saliba also chipped in three aces and each of the Saliba sisters had two blocks. Carnes finished the match with three kills, five aces, and 21 assists. Maci Eckerty had a pair of aces to go along with a team-high nine digs. Freshman Mia Crews had nine digs and four kills in her first varsity start. The Blackhawks finished the day against Austin, beating the Eagles 25-23, 25-19. Carnes stepped up to lead the way, recording 10 kills on 13 attacking attempts while also racking up four assists, recording three blocks, making 15 assists, and tallying seven digs. Kinsey Saliba had 11 more kills and two more blocks in the finale. Springs Valley (8-1, 1-0 PLAC) has now won six consecutive matches. The 'Hawks will return to the court on Tuesday when they host West Washington.
