After winning its eighth-consecutive Patoka Lake Athletic Conference championship and increasing its winning streak in the league to 48 matches across a span of nearly 3,000 days, the Springs Valley volleyball team also led the way on the all-conference team. At the end of deliberations over who to select for the squad last week, five of the 14 players on the team were Blackhawks. A pair of seniors and team captains were included in the All-PLAC honorees as Brynne Buchanan and Tynley Kluesner both made the cut. Kluesner led the ‘Hawks with 72 aces this season, racking them up on 412 attempts with only 17 errors. She also had 171 kills, 29 blocks, and 200 digs. Buchanan put up career-highs nearly across the board this season. She finished with 100 kills, 61 aces, and 16 blocks. She also had 249 digs. Springs Valley also placed two juniors, Leigh Carnes and Bella Nottger, on the All-PLAC team. Carnes was a key piece for the Blackhawks, leading the team with 323 kills. She also had 474 assists, 226 digs, 66 aces, and 31 blocks, all near the top of the team. Nottger wasn’t only Springs Valley’s most efficient hitter — she put down 216 kills on 406 attempts with 55 errors — she was also the most efficient hitter in Class 1A. No other Class 1A player could match her hitting percentage of .397. She also recorded 65 blocks, 45 digs, and 39 aces. Rounding out Springs Valley’s All-PLAC selections was Maddie Carnes. The freshman impressed in her debut season, leading the Blackhawks with 636 assists and 288 digs. She also had 263 kills, 59 aces, and 25 blocks. This marks the second time that Buchanan and Kluesner have made the all-conference team. It’s the third selection for Leigh Carnes and the first for Nottger and Maddie Carnes.
