The Springs Valley football team hosted Salem on Friday, winning 63-12. The Blackhawks stormed to a 21-6 lead in the first quarter, then took a 42-14 lead into the halftime break. They used that to cruise in the second half, scoring 21 points despite the running clock. The Blackhawks really benefitted from a few Salem turnovers in the contest. Parker Chaplin recovered a fumble, Augie Purkhiser intercepted a pass, and Graham Nottger picked one off as well. Nottger managed to return his for a touchdown. Those takeaways proved key for Springs Valley as it actually gave up 5.6 yards per carry — 173 yards total — to the Lions on the ground. Valley did hold them to only three completed passed on 10 attempts though they went for 78 yards and a touchdown. The Blackhawk offense was led by Christian Hamilton. The senior surpassed the 1,000-yard mark for the season with a strong performance that included three touchdowns. The 'Hawks also got two rushing touchdowns from Noah Allstott, one rushing touchdown from Blake Buchanan, and one rushing touchdown from Elijah Dickey. Buchanan also threw a touchdown pass to James Walls. Springs Valley (4-1, 2-1 PLAC) has now won a pair of contests in a row. The Blackhawks will try to stretch their streak to three on Friday when they travel to Crawford County.
