Heading into Saturday’s fourth quarter at Rock Creek Academy, the Springs Valley junior varsity girls’ basketball team trailed 20-19. The Blackhawks had battled back from a slow first quarter — one in which they scored just three points — to stay competitive, but they were about to kick it into gear. In the fourth quarter, they outscored the Lions 16-0 to take a 35-20 victory. Lily Hickman was the catalyst behind Springs Valley’s late surge. After scoring six points through the first three quarters, the sophomore popped off for 10 in the game’s closing period to finish with a game-high 16 points. Dallas Hendrix scored seven points, Kynleigh Dalton and Jordyn Land scored five each, and Kyan Green rounded out the scoring with two points. Springs Valley (1-2, 0-0 PLAC) will return to action on Monday, traveling to Mitchell to open Patoka Lake Athletic Conference play.
