The Springs Valley girls’ basketball team played host to Barr-Reeve on Tuesday, falling to their Sectional 63 foe 50-45. The Blackhawks led 38-35 after three quarters, but ultimately were unable to overcome a strong shooting performance from Barr-Reeve. The Vikings hit nine of their 15 shots from beyond the arc and that, paired with their 11-of-13 performance from the free-throw line, was enough to keep Springs Valley at bay. It was the freshmen duo of Maddie Carnes and Maci Eckerty who led the way against Barr-Reeve. The former led all scorers with 20 points, hitting nine of 14 shots from the field while also grabbing eight rebounds and collecting three steals. The latter was Valley’s only other double-digit scorer, putting up 11 points thanks in part to a 3-for-6 performance from downtown. Eckerty also had two assists and two steals. Brynne Buchanan and Bella Nottger scored five points each. Ashlyn Bonta and Macy Hall rounded out the scoring with two points each. Bella Shipman led the team with three assists. Springs Valley (4-3, 1-0 PLAC) will return to action on Thursday, hitting the road to take on Class 1A No. 9 Northeast Dubois.
