Springs Valley junior Ethan Parker was awarded an IHSAA Champions Pin last week after receiving an exemplary behavior report from an official following Springs Valley's football game at Salem. The reporting official stated that Parker "demonstrated exceptional sportsmanship in his football game against Salem" and "went out of his way on several occasions during the football game to show over-the-top sportsmanship towards the opposing team." The official also stated that Parker "demonstrated the sportsmanship that the IHSAA is looking for in their student-athletes and represented Springs Valley High School in a very positive [manner]." The Champions Pin, part of a program sponsored by the Indiana High School Athletic Association, is awarded to students who demonstrate the values of sportsmanship while competing in high school athletics. Parker is the sixth recipient at Springs Valley, joining Carson Brown, Dane Harris, Denver Rowlett, Kinsey Saliba and Matthew Woolsey as honorees. Parker has been a two-way start for the Blackhawks throughout the season on the gridiron. As the team's center he's been a crucial part of a rushing attack that has recorded 2,519 yards and 43 touchdowns through seven games. Defensively he's recorded 26 tackles as a defensive tackle with six tackles for a loss as well as a forced fumble and two fumble recoveries.
