Valley volleyball wins 20th sectional title in program history

The Springs Valley volleyball team continued adding to their program's storied history Saturday, making a run through the Wood Memorial Sectional to claim the 20th sectional championship. The Blackhawks battled with Evansville Christian in the semifinals, beating the Eagles 25-21, 25-21, 19-25, 25-23. Kinsey Saliba was Valley's strongest attacker in that match, leading the team with 21 kills. With just six errors on her 39 attempts, she recorded a strong .385 hitting percentage. She also had three aces, two blocks, and 12 digs in the win. The championship match was against the host, Wood Memorial, and the Blackhawks broke out the brooms to win 25-19, 25-13, 25-16. Maddie Carnes was stellar in the final, compiling 13 kills on 28 attempts without a single error for a hitting percentage of .464. She also had a team-high seven aces, 24 assists, 10 digs, and a block to lead her team to the title. Springs Valley (24-5, 5-1 PLAC) has won five sectional championships in the last six years and five of its last six matches. The Blackhawks will try to continue their state tournament run next Saturday when they take on Shakamak at the Loogootee Regional.
