Carson Brown made history on Saturday as the Springs Valley cross country teams competed at the Evansville Regional. The senior became just the second Blackhawks to advance to the State Finals by placing sixth in the race held at Angel Mounds. On top of that his time — 15:27.25 — was the fastest any Blackhawk has ever run, setting a new school record. The Blackhawk boys also saw a few personal-record performances. Henry Dybsetter finished 106th with a time of 17:36.09 in the final cross country event of his career. Matthew Woolsey ran a PR time of 19:49.36 to place 232nd. Keaton Thacker set a new PR of 20:04.03 to place 235th. Harry Dybsetter placed 150th, Dane Harris neared his own personal record while finishing 155th, and Andre Ayres finishing 170th. The boys finished 19th out of 25 teams. Sophie Harris led the girls one final time. The senior placed 95th, recording a time of 21:41.80. Belle Roberts set a new personal record of 22:07.62 to finish 116th. Addi Moffatt had a season-best performance to place 149th and Keira Lynch rounded out the day with a 233rd-place finih. Jadyn Lynch and Loran Rayls did not compete as they were at Semi-State with the Blackhawk Brigade. Though the season ends for the rest of the Blackhawks following regional, Brown survived and advanced. He'll run in the State Finals at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute on Saturday, Nov. 2. The boys' race is expected to have a 2:30 p.m. start time.
