The Springs Valley girls' basketball team needed a win on Thursday as it hosted Bloomfield and got just that. The Blackhawks clawed their way to a victory, downing the Cardinals 52-44 at The Hawk's Nest. It was the frontcourt that led the way for Springs Valley, as a pair of forwards recorded a double-double for the 'Hawks. Maddie Carnes led all scorers with 15 points and tacked on 11 rebounds as well as four assists and two blocks. Macy Hall finished with 11 points and led the team with 12 rebounds. That duo alone outrebounded Bloomfield 23-20 and because of that the Blackhawks finished with a huge 39-20 rebounding advantage. Brynne Buchanan put up 10 points and four assists, Maci Eckerty and Bella Shipman had six points each, Ashlyn Bonta finished with two points, and Tori McCormick posted two points and six rebounds. Springs Valley (6-6, 2-1 PLAC) will play next on Saturday, traveling to Loogootee to compete in a varsity doubleheader also featuring the Springs Valley and Loogootee boys.
