Springs Valley cruises past Cannelton

The Springs Valley girls' basketball team was in action on Monday evening, hosting Cannelton. The Blackhawks got up early and dominated the game, winning 67-19. Maddie Carnes posted a new career high in points against the Bulldogs, leading all scorers with 32. She did so in a very efficient manner as well, knocking down 16 of her 21 shots from the field. The freshman also recorded seven rebounds, five steals, and four blocks. Bella Nottger continued her hot streak as well, recording the first double-double of her career. The junior went for 12 points and 14 rebounds including 10 on the offensive end. She also had a block and a steal. Other scorers included Maci Eckerty with 12 points, Ashlyn Bonta with four, Macy Hall, Tori McCormick, and Jordyn Land with two each, and Bella Shipman with one. Land's points came on the first field goal of her varsity career. Molly Tucker took the floor for the first time this season against Cannelton, entering late in the first quarter. The junior guard led the team with three assists while also grabbing two rebounds and recording a steal as well. The win was the third in a row for Springs Valley (12-7, 5-1 PLAC), which has now won seven of its last eight games. The Blackhawks will try to continue their winning streak on Thursday when they travel to Christian Academy.
