The Springs Valley boys' basketball team traveled to Eastern (Pekin) on Friday, taking a 57-50 victory over the Musketeers. The Blackhawks trailed by two early, ending the first quarter down 15-13, but then they turned on the jets. By halftime they led 27-19 and after the third quarter their lead was 46-33. Eastern made a push in the fourth quarter, but by then it was too late. The Blackhawks had a strong shooting night as a team in the win, hitting more than half of their shots from the field, nearly 40 percent of their 3-pointers, and five of their six free-throw attempts. They also scored 12 points on the fast break and 15 points off of Musketeer turnovers. Landon Weeks had another strong performance, leading all scorers with 21 points on just 10 shots. He made three of four 3-point attempts. Evan Brown backed him up with 10 points, also grabbing three rebounds. Christian Hamilton had nine points, Garrett Hahn had eight points, Keyton Jones had six rebounds and four assists, and James Walls had three points. Blake Buchanan had three rebounds and two steals. Kevin Carnes had four rebounds and a steal. Springs Valley (5-11, 1-4 PLAC) broke a four-game losing streak with the win. The Blackhawks will try to build on the result when they travel to Tell City on Saturday.
