The Springs Valley track and field team opened its season with a trip to Jasper, taking on a trio of large-school opponents with Evansville North, Evansville Memorial, and the host Wildcats also competing in the quad meet. The Blackhawk boys placed third as a team, beating Evansville Memorial. The girls finished fourth. Reigning shot put sectional champion Ella Meehan picked up right where she left off, taking first place with a distance of 32-2. Similarly, reigning PLAC discus champion and school record holder Sarah Drabing won the discus with a toss of 98-5. Drabing also finished third in the shot put. The Blackhawks also got a strong individual performance from Miya Campbell. The junior set a new personal record in the long jump at 14-11.25, finishing third in the process.
