After much anticipation, the Springs Valley boys’ golf team opened its season on Saturday by hosting 15 other schools for its 18-hole invitational on Saturday at the Donald Ross Course. Even with tough competition like Plainfield, Forest Park, and eventual champion Evansville Memorial on the course, the Blackhawks were able to finish fourth with a team score of 349. Jake Hammond led the way for the Blackhawks, finishing his round with a score of 79. It was the fourth-best individual score at the invitational and was just three strokes off of the 76 that was posted by Evansville Memorial’s Brady Wynn and topped the leaderboard. The Blackhawks also got matching scores of 84 from Owen Weisensteiner and Blake Albright. The seniors both shot 43 on the front nine and 41 on the back. Max Pendley put up a 102 and Landen Noble rounded out the day for Springs Valley with a 105.
