Blackhawk boys 1st, girls 2nd at Dubois quad meet

The Springs Valley track and field team traveled to Northeast Dubois on Tuesday night for a four-team meet against Loogootee, Crawford County, and the host Jeeps. The Blackhawk boys ran away with a victory, racking up 117.5 points. The girls just missed out on finishing first, placing second with 91 points. Springs Valley’s boys were strong across the board, getting contributions from all facets of the team. Ezra Mills won both the 100- and 200-meter dash with times of 11.40 and 23.88. He also finished second in the long jump. Ian Robbins placed third in the 400-meter dash, James Walls finished second in the 110-meter hurdles and third in the high jump, and Alex Combs finished third in both the 110-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles. Larron Childers led the way in the field events, winning both the shot put and the discus throw with measurements of 44-5 and 139-1 respectively. Teagun Rominger followed his lead in the shot put, placing third. Xander Cook finished second in the discus. Christian Hamilton set a new personal record in the long jump, winning the event at 19-11. Springs Valley’s distance squad had quite the night. Alan Marshall, Grant Brown, and Carson Brown swept the podium in the 1600-meter run, finishing first, second, and third respectively. Marshall’s winning time was 4:42.83. The Blackhawks also dominated the 3200-meter run, placing runners in each of the top four positions. Andre Ayres won the event with a time of 11:50. Marshall finished second, Grant Brown finished third, and Carson Brown finished fourth. Max Pendley took a win in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:19.32. The boys’ 400-meter relay team of Walls, Hamilton, Evan Baker, and Mills took first place. The boys’ 3200-meter relay team of Marshall, Carson Brown, Grant Brown, and Pendley won as well. Springs Valley’s closest competition in the boys’ side of the meet was Northeast Dubois, which finished 30 points behind the Blackhawks. Miya Campbell had an exceptional outing for Springs Valley in the girls’ portion of the meet. The junior won the 100-meter with a time of 13.47, the 200-meter with a time of 28.78, and the long jump with a measurement of 14-10.5. She also teamed up with Kinsey Saliba, Brynne Buchanan, and Macy Hall to win the 400-meter relay. Saliba finished third in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes. Hall finished second in the high jump. Buchanan finished second in the 100-meter hurdles. Macie Mayhew also chipped in as a hurdler, finishing second in the 300-meter hurdles. Sarah Drabing led the way for Springs Valley’s girls in the field events. She won the discus with a toss of 106-5. Ella Meehan finished second in the shot put and Tori McCormick placed third in the high jump. Springs Valley finished second and third in the 3200-meter run as Sophie Harris and Jadyn Lynch excelled in that event. Keira Lynch placed third in the 1600-meter run. Mayhew, McCormick, Myla Harrison, and Ella Meehan combined to finish second in the 1600-meter relay. Harris, Jadyn Lynch, Keira Lynch, and Shanacea Hankins placed second in the 3200-meter relay. The Blackhawks finished just three points behind first-place Northeast Dubois. Springs Valley will return to the track on Thursday, hitting the road to take on Mitchell, Shoals, and West Washington at Mitchell.
