The Springs Valley baseball team hosted Eastern (Pekin) on Thursday, falling to the Musketeers 8-7. The Blackhawks built a 7-4 lead by scoring three runs in the fifth and two runs in the sixth, but saw it disappear when they allowed Eastern to put up four runs in the top of the seventh. Springs Valley was carried by its pitching early in the game. Mavrick Land and Hunter Thomas combined to allow just two runs, both earned, on four hits in five innings. They also struck out four and walked just one. At the plate, the Blackhawks had a handful of multi-hit performances, led by Jonash Hammond. The junior catcher went 3-5 at the dish, driving in a pair of runs. Henry Cruz, Konner Chase, Cole Kovas, and Noah Allstott also had multiple hits. Chase, Allstott, and Braylon Kovas also had one run batted in each. As a team, Springs Valley wasn’t able to make up for its mistakes and missed opportunities. The Blackhawks left 12 runners on base, struck out eight times, and committed three errors. Springs Valley (1-3) will return to play on Saturday, hosting conference rival Mitchell.
