The Springs Valley baseball team opened Patoka Lake Athletic Conference play on Saturday, hosting Mitchell. The Bluejackets took an early lead and the Blackhawks were never able to catch up, falling 6-0. Kaden Dunn got the start on the mound for Springs Valley. The junior pitched four innings — a threshold he’s either reached in all three of his starts this season — giving up five runs, three earned, on eight hits. He also walked two batters. Hunter Thomas came on in relief of Dunn and pitched well. The freshman completed three innings in 40 pitches, allowing one run on three hits and walking none. Konner Chase had two of Springs Valley’s five total hits, making the most of his three at-bats. Mavrick Land, Henry Cruz, and Noah Allstott each had a hit as well. Keyton Jones stole a base after reaching on an error. Cole Kovas drew a walk. Springs Valley (1-4, 0-1 PLAC) will play next on Tuesday, traveling to Montgomery to take on Class 1A No. 9 Barr-Reeve.
