For two innings, the Springs Valley softball team led Class 1A No. 2 Barr-Reeve on Monday. The Blackhawks plated a pair of early runs to take a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Brynne Buchanan and Tynley Kluesner reached in their opening at-bats and then Lily Hickman drove them in with a double. Unfortunately, Springs Valley’s scoring stopped there. Barr-Reeve tied the game in the third, then took the lead in the fifth and picked up an insurance run in the sixth to defeat the Blackhawks 4-2. After those first three batters of the game, base runners were fewer and further in-between for Valley. Kluesner would get on base again, finishing with a walk and a hit. Kaylee McNeely and Molly Tucker each drew a walk as well. Emri Allen and Lola Pantoja each had a hit. Buchanan had two stolen bases, Kluesner had one, and Josie Robison had one. Hickman took the ball for the Blackhawks in the circle and pitched all seven innings. She allowed just two earned runs on six hits, striking out five and walking three. Springs Valley (2-3, 1-1 PLAC) will hit the road on Tuesday for another tough matchup against Class 1A No. 10 Northeast Dubois.
