The Springs Valley track and field teams took wins hand over fist on Thursday night, traveling to Bedford to take on Bedford North Lawrence, Eastern Greene, and Mitchell. The Blackhawks boys outpaced the competition by a strong margin, outscoring the Stars — their closest competition — by 24 points. The Blackhawk girls were in a similar position, outscoring the Stars by 17. Alan Marshall led the way for the boys with a historic performance. He broke his own school record in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:01.49. That, of course, was more than enough to win the event. He also took first place in the 1600-meter run. Carson Brown won the 3200-meter run, James Walls won the 110-meter hurdles, Christian Hamilton won the long jump with a new personal record of 21-5.75, and Larron Childers swept the throws once again. His discus throw of 157-5 was the second-longest in school history. The Blackhawks also won all three relay races. The field events were key for the Springs Valley girls as three of their five wins came in that portion of the meet. Tori McCormick took first place in the high jump, Ella Meehan won the shot put, and Sarah Drabing topped her competition in the discus. Springs Valley’s other wins came in the 200-meter dash via Miya Campbell and in the 400-meter relay. The ‘Hawks will try to stay hot on Saturday when they travel to Borden for the Sam Sumner 1A Invitational.
