The Springs Valley track and field teams stayed hot on Saturday, traveling to Borden to compete in the Sam Sumner Invitational. The Blackhawks swept the meet, as the boys outpaced their closest competition by dozens of points to win the team title and the girls knocked off the host Braves by less than four points to take first place. Miya Campbell had quite the day for Springs Valley, being named the Most Valuable Athlete in the girls’ portion of the event. She won the 100-meter dash, the 200-meter dash, and finished second in the long jump before also running a leg of the 400-meter relay and finishing first in that event as well. Her 200-meter time of 28.28 seconds set a new personal record. The other Blackhawks who took individual events were Tori McCormick, who won the high jump, and Brynne Buchanan, who won the 100-meter hurdles. Macy Hall placed second in the high jump, Sophie Harris took second place in the 1600-meter run and the 3200-meter run, Kinsey Saliba finished second in the 100-meter dash, and Macie Mayhew finished second in the 300-meter hurdles. The 3200-meter relay was the highlight of the meet for the Springs Valley boys. The team of Max Pendley, Carson Brown, Grant Brown, and Alan Marshall set a new meet record in the event with a time of 8:34. Springs Valley would also win the other two relays and eight more individual events. Christian Hamilton was one of the top athletes at the event, sweeping his events. The sophomore won the 100-meter dash, the 200-meter dash, the long jump, and was a member of the 400-meter relay team. His 200-meter time of 23.52 seconds set a new personal record. Larron Childers also won multiple events, sweeping the shot put and the discus. Alan Marshall lowered his own school record in the 800-meter run to 2:00.78. That mark was also a meet record. Carson Brown rounded out the first-place finishers by taking the 3200-meter run. Springs Valley will compete again on Tuesday when its underclassmen travel to Northeast Dubois for the Freshman and Sophomore Meet.
