The Springs Valley baseball team opened its week on Monday with an opportunity to take a big win against Wood Memorial. The Blackhawks did just that, ending their five-game losing streak by ousting the Trojans 12-2. Springs Valley racked up six runs in the first inning and never looked back. Three more runs would come in the fourth, then three more in the fifth to end it. Noah Allstott was a standout for the Blackhawks, going 2-3 with a double and three runs batted in. His sharply-hit ground ball in the first inning forced an error and allowed two runs to score, doubling the Springs Valley lead to 4-0 with one swing of the bat. The Blackhawks’ other three hits in the game came from Henry Cruz, Keyton Jones, and Blake Buchanan. The latter two also recorded their first varsity runs batted in against the Trojans. Jones stole two bases and Cruz stole one. Braylon Kovas was an on-base machine in the middle of the lineup, drawing two walks and getting hit by two pitches in four plate appearances. He also stole two bases. Other offensive contributions include walks drawn by Konner Chase and Cole Kovas, runs batted in from Jonas Hammond and Mavrick Land, and a stolen base from Landon Farris. Cole Kovas got the start on the mound for the Blackhawks and performed well. He went the full five innings on just 71 pitches, allowing only two runs on five hits. He struck out three and walked one. Springs Valley (2-6, 1-2 PLAC) will try to keep its momentum moving forward on Wednesday when it travels to Salem. On Thursday it will travel to West Washington, then on Saturday it will host Charlestown. BLACKHAWKS 12, TROJANS 2 Wood Memorial (0-6);010;01—2;5;7 Springs Valley (2-6);600;33—12;5;1 W: C Kovas.
