Hickman's homers lead Springs Valley past Austin

The hits started coming early for the Springs Valley softball team on Wednesday and they didn’t stop coming. The Blackhawks traveled to Austin and defeated the Eagles 16-2. Lily Hickman was the grand marshal of the hit parade picking up three of the Blackhawks’ 13 knocks herself and driving in a career-high six runs. She hit a two-run homer in the first inning, then in her second at-bat she hit a grand slam. She also had a double. Tynley Kluesner also had three hits including a double, Lola Pantoja had multiple hits, going 2-3 with an RBI, and Bostyn Rowlett hit a two-run home run. Brynne Buchanan and Karson Dalton drove in two runs apiece. Ashlyn Bonta and Kaylee McNeely also drove in runs. Hickman also did the pitching for the Blackhawks, going all five innings. Both of the runs she allowed were earned and she only allowed five hits. She struck out five. The win is the second for Springs Valley (4-5, 2-1 PLAC) in its last three games. The Blackhawks will try to pull to an even .500 record on Monday when they travel to Eastern (Pekin).
