Blackhawk track battles in three-team meet at Perry Central

The Springs Valley track and field team traveled to Perry Central on Thursday for a three-team meet against the Commodores and Tell City. The Blackhawks scaled back their events in preparation for Saturday’s Edgewood Invitational, but still managed to score in several events while both the boys and girls finished third. It was the field events where the girls did most of their scoring. Ella Meehan led the way, winning the shot put with a throw of 33-10.5 and then also finishing second in the discus. Sarah Drabing won the discus with a toss of 109-5 and finished third in the shot put. Leigh Carnes also contributed in the throws, finishing third in the discus. Tori McCormick won the high jump, clearing a height of 4-8, and Macy Hall finished just behind her in second place. Kinsey Saliba placed second in the long jump and Brynne Buchanan was third in the 100-meter hurdles. Larron Childers was the lone multi-event winner for the Springs Valley boys. He won the shot put and set a new personal record with a measurement of 46-10.5, then blew away his competition in the discus as well at 145-0. Deion Edwards won the high jump with a height of 5-4 and Alan Marshall won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:00.93. The team of Isaiah Ervin, Ezra Mills, Grant Brown, and Marshall won the 1600-meter relay as well with a time of 3:37.07.. Springs Valley’s second-place finishers were Marshall in the 400-meter dash, Carson Brown in the 1600-meter run with a PR of 4:54.00, and Christian Hamilton in the long jump. Third-place finishers included Grant Brown in the 800, Alex Combs in the 110-meter hurdles and the long jump, and Jaheim Hamilton in the long jump. The Blackhawks will return to action on Saturday, traveling to Ellettsville for the Edgewood Invitational.
