The Springs Valley track and field team was back on the road on Friday, traveling to Ramsey to compete in the North Harrison Invitational. The boys would storm to the championship, edging out Tell City by two points to take the title, while a depleted girls’ team would battle to a ninth-place finish. Grant Brown made history at the meet, reclaiming his school record in the 3200-meter run to finish second. The junior edged out his brother Carson’s best mark, set just the previous weekend, by more than three seconds to set a new record of 9:49.90. Carson finished third in the event. One of Springs Valley’s two event winners at North Harrison was Jaheim Hamilton, who took the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 43.21. He also finished second in the 110-meter hurdles. Alan Marshall also picked up a win, doing so in the 800-meter run. The junior lowered his school record and finally broke the two-minute mark by posting a time of 1:59.82. He also set a new personal record in the 1600-meter run, creeping closer to the school record with a time of 4:32.95. Christian Hamilton was rather productive, scoring in multiple events. He placed second in the long jump, then third in each of the 100- and 200-meter dashes. Larron Childers finished second in both the shot put and the discus. Springs Valley finished second in the 400-meter relay and third in the 3200-meter relay. Ella Meehan was the star of the evening for the Springs Valley girls. The sophomore finished second in the shot put with a throw of 34-7. Miya Campbell was the lone Blackhawk to score in multiple events, placing sixth in the long jump and eighth in the 200-meter dash. The Blackhawks also got results from Brynne Buchanan (seventh, 100-meter hurdles), Sophie Harris (sixth, 3200-meter run), and Tori McCormick (eighth, high jump). Leigh Carnes participated in the discus and finished ninth. Springs Valley will compete next on Monday, traveling to Orleans to compete with the Bulldogs as well as Shoals.
