Blackhawk track battles in three-team meet at Orleans

The Springs Valley track and field team traveled to Orleans on Monday to compete one more time ahead of Friday’s Patoka Lake Athletic Conference Meet. The Blackhawks found success against Orleans and Crawford County as they boys won and the girls finished second. Alan Marshall led the way for the Blackhawk boys, winning both the 1600- and 3200-meter runs. Springs Valley had four other individual event winners as well: Ezra Mills in the 100-meter dash, Evan Baker in the 400-meter run, James Walls in the 100-meter hurdles, and Larron Childers in the discus. Springs Valley also won the 400-meter relay with a team of Walls, Mills, Jaheim Hamilton, and Christian Hamilton and the 1600-meter relay with a team of Grant Brown, Andre Ayres, Carson Brown, and Marshall. In their second-place effort, the Springs Valley girls had four individual event-winners. Sarah Drabing won the discus, Ella Meehan won the shot put, Sophie Harris took first place in the 3200-meter run, and Brynne Buchanan took down her competition in the 100-meter hurdles. The next meet on the calendar for the Blackhawks is a big one: the PLAC Meet. They’ll travel to Leopold on Friday with hopes of capturing several conference championships with the boys trying to defend their team title yet again.
