Valley baseball falls at Mitchell

The Springs Valley baseball team traveled to Mitchell on Tuesday, falling to the Bluejackets 6-5 in walk-off fashion. The Blackhawks did all their offensive work early, putting up five runs in the first three innings after Konner Chase led the game off with a solo home run. Mitchell tied the game 2-2 in the bottom of the first, but Springs Valley quickly reclaimed the lead and held it for most of the evening. The Bluejackets rallied to tie the game 5-5 in the bottom of the sixth, benefitting from a hit by pitch and three walks in the process. In the bottom of the seventh they’d score following a triple and a single, both with one out. Landon Weeks got the start on the mound for the Blackhawks and pitched well, going five innings and allowing five earned runs on five hits with five walks. Tanner Phillips finished the game, allowing the final run on two hits. He struck out one. Chase was the lone Blackhawk to drive in multiple runs, finishing at 1-4 with two RBI and a walk. Braylon Kovas was also strong, going 2-3 with an RBI and a walk. Weeks drew a pair of walks and Keyton Jones went 1-1 with a double, an RBI, and two walks. Blake Buchanan also doubled. Springs Valley got a hit from Noah Allstott as well. Allstott, Landon Farris, Jones, and Kovas stole one base each. Springs Valley (5-11, 2-3 PLAC) will try to snap its four-game losing streak on Wednesday when it hosts Tell City.
