The Springs Valley baseball team hosted Tell City on Wednesday evening, winning 9-5. The Blackhawks fell behind early, trailing 3-0 heading to the bottom of the second inning, but they took off shortly after. One run in the second and two more in the third would tie the game, then a five-run explosion in the fifth would give them a 8-3 lead and they’d never look back. Henry Cruz was superb against the Marksmen, serving as a table setter for Springs Valley offensively. He reached in all four of his plate appearances, going 3-3 with a walk and scoring a pair of runs. Noah Allstott also had a big day, going 2-3 with two doubles and three runs batted in. Jonas Hammond went 2-3 with an RBI. Mavrick Land went 2-4 with a double and two RBI. Keyton Jones also drove in a pair of runs. Kaden Dunn got the start for Springs Valley on the mound and ultimately picked up the win. The junior pitched six innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on six hits and four walks. He also hit a batter and struck out four. Braylon Kovas closed the game and gave up two unearned runs on one hit in one inning. He had one strikeout. The win snapped a five-game losing streak for Springs Valley (6-11, 2-3 PLAC). The Blackhawks will return to play on Thursday, hosting Perry Central in their conference finale.
