A slow start doomed the Springs Valley baseball team on Thursday as it hosted Perry Central. The Blackhawks allowed four runs in the first inning, then another in the second on their way to a 6-2 loss. The entirety of Springs Valley’s scoring came off the bat of Henry Cruz. In the third inning the senior drove a pitch over the fence in right field for his first home run of the season, cutting the Perry Central lead to 5-2. For the game as a whole he went 1-2 with two runs batted in, a walk, and a stolen base. Keyton Jones was the only other Blackhawk to record a hit against the Commodores. He went 1-2 with a walk. Mavrick Land, Braylon Kovas, and Blake Buchanan also reached on a walk. Land threw a complete game for the Blackhawks and of the six runs he allowed, only one was earned. He gave up nine hits, walked one, and hit a batter with a pitch, but he struck out four as well. Springs Valley committed five errors behind him. Springs Valley (6-12, 2-4 PLAC) closed its Patoka Lake Athletic Conference slate with the loss. The Blackhawks will try to bounce back on Saturday as they travel to Seymour for a matchup with Trinity Lutheran.
