The Springs Valley boys’ golf team took a crack at sectional foe Jasper on Tuesday, hosting the Wildcats at The Donald Ross Course. The Blackhawks, however, were unable to play their best round and fell to Jasper 157-169. Blake Albright and Jake Hammond tied for Springs Valley’s low score at 40. They were five strokes behind Jasper’s Caleb Schnarr, who was the match’s medalist with a score of 35. Owen Weisensteiner was next-best for Springs Valley at 44. Ryker Allen shot a 55, Landen Noble shot a 52, Kash Smoot shot a 61, and Ian Mayhugh rounded things out with a 69. Van Leininger was a bright spot for the Blackhawks against Jasper. The freshman continued his recent stretch of improved play by putting up a score of 45. Last week he shot a 41 when the Blackhawks hosted Paoli, Orleans, and West Washington. They’ll hope to see him continue improving as the season — and his career — goes on. Springs Valley (34-15) will get back into action quickly following the loss. On Wednesday they’ll host South Central, Corydon Central, and Pike Central at The Donald Ross Course.
